Policy & Impact

Policy-Relevant Evidence

The Digital Determinants of Health Hub produces policy-relevant evidence on how digital environments shape young people’s health, wellbeing and equity.

Research is designed from the outset to address evidence gaps identified by policymakers and regulators, with a focus on causal inference, robust measurement and transparency. The Hub draws on a range of data sources, including self-reported, administrative and digital trace data, using methods appropriate to the question and context, to ensure findings are suitable for informing regulation, public health strategy and service design.

Policy Advisory Group

Policy relevance is supported through a senior Policy Advisory Group, which provides ongoing insight into regulatory priorities, evidence needs and policy contexts.

The Group helps ensure that the Hub’s research questions, interpretation and outputs remain aligned with real-world policy challenges, while maintaining scientific independence.

Areas of Impact

The Hub’s work contributes evidence to policy debates and regulatory discussions across key areas, including:

  • Online safety and platform regulation.

  • Platform accountability and algorithmic transparency.

  • Advertising, marketing and influencer policy.

  • Digital inequalities, access and inclusion.

These areas reflect priorities identified through engagement with policymakers, regulators and advisory groups, and remain responsive to evolving legislative and regulatory contexts in the UK and internationally.

Advisory & Policy Engagement

The Hub works collaboratively with policymakers, regulators and public bodies to support evidence-informed decision-making.

Engagement includes tailored briefings, expert consultation, advisory roles and contributions to policy workshops and roundtables. This work supports appropriate interpretation and use of evidence, rather than promoting predetermined policy positions.
